TSAF is JUC’s independent fund for support of social justice projects that:
- educate and empower the JUC congregation - youth and adults - to be active participants in social responsibility;
- create opportunities for JUCers to put Unitarian Universalist values into action;
- build partnerships within the community to enhance our voice for social justice.
TSAF distributes grants to support the involvement of JUC in social justice projects. TSAF was not intended to be a long-term endowment, but rather to extend JUC’s social action programming by supporting projects that are not currently funded by the church's operating budget.
Who may apply for grants?
Proposals may be submitted by anyone affiliated with JUC whose project is sponsored by an existing JUC group. Appropriate groups include, but are not limited to, Social Responsibility Council task forces. Groups such as Youth Religious Education, Continuing Religious Education, Music Ministry, Religious Services, or any group that envisions a social action project requiring funds, are encouraged to apply.
Grants are not made to outside organizations as a “pass-through” of funds. However, projects that involve collaboration with an outside organization are eligible for support if they are sponsored by a JUC group and facilitate involvement of JUC members in that organization’s activities.
A project may not be funded by both TSAF and the Endowment and Memorial Gift Trust (EMGT) in the same time period.
Two types of grants are made:
Large (over $1000)
Large grant applications are accepted once each year with a preliminary letter of intent due April 1 and final applications due June15.
Large grants have helped to:
- fund professional staffing to encourage and support expansion of social action programming at JUC.
Small (up to $1000)
Small grants are reviewed three times a year with deadlines of Jan. 30, May 30 and Sept. 30.
Small grants have helped to:
- send youth to national training events;
- support the Interfaith Music Festival of The Interfaith Alliance-Colorado;
- support a series of issues seminars for the GLBT community.

TSAF's Scope
TSAF was founded in 2003 by a generous gift of $100,000 from JUC members Jim and Til Taguchi who had the vision to create a fund that could support social action projects to extend JUC’s reach into the community.
The Taguchis wished to establish a fund to be used for current needs--not maintained in perpetuity as an endowed trust fund. However, the fund can continue indefinitely with new contributions. As awareness of JUC’s social responsibility programming expands, it is hoped that TSAF will attract memorial gifts and other contributions. Donations to the fund may be mailed to the church (14350 W. 32nd Ave., Golden, CO 80401).
Who administers TSAF?
The fund is governed by five directors who are nominated by the Leadership Nominating
Committee (LNC) and elected by the congregation for three year terms. They are directly responsible to the congregation.
Current Directors include:
Peg MacMorris, Chair term ending June 30, 2010
Lois Abbott June 30, 2009
Bob Hofmann June 30, 2009
Dennis Larsen June 30, 2008
