Planned Giving Program

The Planned Giving Program will become part of the charter of the Endowment and Memorial Gift Trust. It will be sponsored and administered under the direction of the EMGT directors. It is permissible to have non-directors on the Planned Giving Program sub-committee. It will operate under the authority of the EMGT as the annual giving campaign operates under the auspices of the finance committee. The vision is for the Planned Giving Program to be included annually in church planning, publicity and support.

Goals:

The goals of the “program” are to raise awareness and encourage planned giving from members and friends to JUC’s EMGT through a variety of means – i.e. wills, gift annuities, gifting appreciated stock/mutual funds, etc. A secondary goal will be to facilitate our ability to freely speak about and openly solicit
giving from our members and friends to further our shared values and vision.

Features:

  1. Establish a “Legacy Circle.” The Legacy Circle” will be comprised of those members and Friends of JUC who have declared that they currently have included JUC in some planned giving vehicle such as a will or trust. These members will join the “Legacy Circle” during a yearly recognition. In honor of their commitment they will be given a special Chalice pin. When worn this pin will raise awareness about the importance of planned giving.
  2. Calendar one special Sunday each year where a portion of the service is given to the importance and value of planned giving to further our treasured values long after our physical existence ends. This service would be the time each year when we formally install new members into the “Legacy Circle” and when they will be given their chalice pin.
  3. Plan periodic workshops around the subjects of aging, planned giving and estate planning. We could solicit a member who is an attorney to offer reduced fee services for wills and estates for those who plan to include JUC in their bequest.
  4. Newsletter – For continual awareness building we will submit a “sound bite/quote” in each and every newsletter – always precede the quote with a small image of our logo.
  5. Brochure – Replace existing brochure or create an additional brochure. This brochure will be mailed out once a year in the newsletter to coordinate with the “Legacy Circle” Sunday.
  6. Design a pew card advertising the “Legacy Circle”
  7. Arrange for visits with interested members to explore how they might include JUC in their planned giving.
  8. Web Site – create a link to JUC’s web page where our brochure is online.

To Do:

  1. Decide on name - Some ideas are: Mix and match
Legacy or Heritage or Bequest and Society or Circle or Foundation or Order or Alliance or fellowship or Shared Values
  2. Decide on criteria for membership in “Legacy Society.” How do we determine who meets criteria?
  3. Write up formal Planned Giving program to take to the board for approval
  4. Design new brochure and get printed/ put brochure online.
  5. Calendar special Sunday for this year – This year we may only be able to do first time installation at another service.
  6. Expand newsletter sound bite/ quote list – get to newsletter editors with mandate that one gets put in each newsletter.
  7. Design and have Pew Card printed.
  8. Plan a workshop or series of workshops.
