Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and Al-Anon

AA: a support group for individuals who are alcoholics. Al-Anon: a support group for those whose lives are impacted by alcoholism in a friend or loved one.

Blue Mountain Meditation Group
1st and 3rd Thursdays • 7:30 to 9 p.m. • John & Annie Hedberg

Spiritual fellowship and support for those practicing Eknath Easwaran’s Eight Point Program, based on passage meditation, for living a spiritual life in our everyday world. A four week introduction to the program is offered annually in September. To join the group without the introductory classes, please read Easwaran’s book, Meditation, and meditate 30 minutes daily for a month.

Buddhist Sangha Service
1st & 3rd Sundays • 5 to 6 p.m. • Chet & Bobbie Cromwell

The Buddha was a highly unorthodox person. His teachings are not sets of dogma but rather propositions for people to investigate and validate for themselves. Our Sangha service provides an opportunity to explore Buddha’s ideas and their possible value to us today. This meditation service is open to all and no meditation experience is necessary.

¡Charla! Spanish Conversation Group
2nd & 4th Sundays • 12:30 to 2 p.m. • Carol Drew, Phyllis Morales and Olivia Santos

Practice your Spanish and discuss important topics. The topics vary.

Covenant of UU Pagans (CUUPS)
2nd & 4th Thursdays • 7 to 9 p.m. • Joy Phelan

For anyone, men or women, interested in learning about Earth-based spirituality. We meet monthly to share our knowledge about a variety of topics and do hand crafts. We hold open circles 8 times a year and we are a Fellowship Dinner Cook Team.

Dream Study Group
2nd & 4th Mondays • 9:15 to 11 a.m. • Marie Schottler

Based on the writings of Jeremy Taylor, this is a gentle group process in which questions are asked of the dreamer who has just shared their dream with the group leading to an “aha!” moment about their own dream. Please call before attending.

Great Books Discussion Group
2nd & 4th Mondays • 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. • Janette Wesley

Based on the idea that by reading from the great books of our civilization and discussing them with other people, you can reach a fuller understanding of these works than you can on your own. This is a community based discussion group.

Hatha Yoga
Mondays • 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. and Thursdays • 9:30 to 11 a.m. • Susan Mangum

These classes are perfect for those searching for a gentler approach to body movement. Focus is on breathing and relaxation techniques, safe stretches and strength builders. Feel the day’s tensions melt away as you become peaceful and energized. Classes are open to the public with a $10 drop in fee or $48 for a six-week session.

Herb Guild
2nd Sundays • 5 to 7 p.m. • Lois Kaness

If you use herbs for culinary, medicinal, or magical purposes or simply enjoy the scents and serenity of an herb garden, share your knowledge and join us in learning from each other. Speakers, field trips, hands-on workshops and recipe sharing.

JUGardeners
4th Sundays (March - October) • 1 to 3 p.m. in various members’ homes • Jeannie Spears and Dennis Westbrook

This group provides an informal opportunity to share an interest in gardening and everyone is welcome. Exchange plants and seeks on a voluntary basis and enjoy a potluck salad at the meetings. Meeting locations vary from month to month.

Money Forum
3rd Wednesdays • 7 to 9 p.m. • Drew Lautrup and George Witman

The Money Forum gives its participants the opportunity to talk about their relationships with money. The emphasis is on values clarification, understanding what is enough, wanting more, and personal money management. There is no agenda designed to encourage the limiting of one’s desire for more, or to suggest values that are different from those each of us already has. Each person in the forum has a fascination with money. We read books about money and a portion of each session is devoted to a discussion of those books.

Non-Fiction Writing Class
3rd Sundays • 7 to 9 p.m. • Len Wheeler

If you want to try non-fiction writing, join this group! We’re gentle, we laugh, and we’re serious about commenting on ways to improve our writing. If possible, please bring a writing sample to the first session. No prior experience is needed.

Novels with Religious Themes
3rd Fridays • 7 to 9 p.m. • Suzy Stutzman

Each month, the group discusses a different book. Last year’s books included The Kite Runner, Bee Season, My Sister’s Keeper, Imaginary Friends, Round the Bend, The Piano Tuner, Plain Truth, Our Lady of the Forest, and The Red Tent. Past groups have included non-fiction books such as Beyond Belief and held occasional movie nights.

Prophfits Socially Responsible Investing Club
2nd Sundays • 9 to 10:30 a.m. • Alice Sharp

Open to all, this program follows four principles: invest regularly, reinvest all earnings, invest in growth companies, and diversify to reduce risk.

Meets monthly for quilting and community.

Readers’ Theatre
1st Sundays • 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at various members’ homes • Donald Randall

Spiritual Drum Circle
4th Fridays • 7 to 9 p.m. • Greg Boyles of Denver Drum Circles

Participants drum together in this exhilarating and unifying activity. No musical training is necessary! Experience a closeness with fellow drummers and feel more exuberant about being powerfully alive. Children and dancers are welcome. Participants are encouraged to bring something percussive: drums, djembes, congas, bongos, shakers, rattles, etc., as well as any household objects that make intriguing sounds (metal boxes, pots, ashtrays...).

WomenSpirit
3rd Fridays • 7 to 9 p.m. • Kalin Baker and Carolee Laughton

Each month we explore one aspect of what it means to be a woman and our spiritual relationship with the larger world around us. Wear comfortable clothing you can sit and move in and look for the WomenSpirit brochure for details of monthly topics.

Young Adult Group
4th Tuesdays • 7 to 9 p.m. • Sue Parilla

Young Adults (defined as 18 - 35 years of age) need their own group to provide a support system and friendship among age peers. As young adults journey through a life passage of transition, major life decisions and personal growth, community with people who share their spiritual journey can provide much desired support. This is especially true as young adults are often transient and rely on UU churches across the country during this stage of life. The group plans social activities, service projects and a monthly discussion class.
